Juvéderm® is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable
gel based on a natural substance called hyaluronic acid. The
gel is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts with a
very fine needle. The results are instantaneous and produce a
long-lasting, natural enhancement, gentle and safe for your skin.
Juvéderm® enables you to get a natural beauty
lift, using your body's own material, thereby eliminating any
need for allergy testing. Juvéderm® smoothes
wrinkles and folds, giving volume to your lips and contours
to your face.
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection.
The smooth consistency of Juvéderm®'s gel allows
your doctor to easily administer it. In addition, Juvéderm® is
injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce
injection discomfort. Your doctor may choose to numb (anesthetize)
the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.
The injection process takes only about 25 minutes. You'll also
need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment.
Juvéderm®'s unique formulation provides results
that last up to 6 months or longer. As the injected stabilized
hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® breaks down, water
takes its place. The less concentrated the gel becomes, the
more water it is able to bind. This is one of the main reasons
why Juvéderm® lasts so long.
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short-lasting
(7 days or less). The most common side effects include temporary injection site
reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps,
bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures,
there is a risk of infection.
